Il fusibile rappresenta una soluzione ottimale, efficace ed economica per la protezione di circuiti elettrici ed elettronici da eventuali guasti dovuti a sovraccarichi o cortocircuiti.
I fusibili sono provvisti di un sottile filo, che si fonde rompendosi, quando vi passa una corrente superiore a una certa soglia, bloccando di conseguenza il passaggio di corrente e interrompendo cioè il circuito, per evitare danni più gravi ad altri componenti.

In altre parole, il fusibile si guasta per evitare che si guastino componenti più costosi come regolatori di carica, inverter o batterie.

Il fusibile deve avere una portata di corrente uguale o leggermente inferiore a quella del regolatore di carica e deve essere installato, attraverso il portafusibile, tra il regolatore di carica e la batteria.
